What for many suppliers would be very hard to comply with, and might even mean the loss of an order, has, thanks to its structured supply chain management, emerged as a real competitive advantage for DESIGNA.
This is demonstrated by the two current “Mall of the Emirates” and “Deira City Centre” projects for the Emirate of Dubai. The substantial order includes 73 pay stations, 35 entrance and 15 exit control terminals. Although the production department was already running at basic capacity before receipt of the order, it will still be possible to fulfil the order within the standard delivery period of six weeks.
“By utilising our supply chain to the optimum, involving our suppliers and thanks to the great flexibility of our production team, we are able to guarantee this kind of substantial and short lead-time order in less time than our standard delivery period,” comments DESIGNA's Supply Chain Manager, Thomas Bührig-Reß, on the current project. “Our flexibility is particularly clear when you consider that the production department was able to outsource the pay stations to another site in Kiel within only three days.”
“Lean production” is the key term here: DESIGNA works continuously not only on improvements in production, service and technical equipment, but also in autonomous working groups and with consistent quality management.
Alongside the standard components of the PM ABACUS parking management system, in Dubai the project also requires an additional, tailored service function - mobile POS. With these portable “pay stations” the car park employees are able to collect the charges directly without the driver needing to leave his or her vehicle especially.
